Wordle: Strategic Talent

I want to share a great tool that can add an entirely new perspective to the task of fine tuning a resume (and job descriptions, but I will focus on the resume here).  Since your resume is your marketing venue, it's more important than ever to ensure your resume highlights the right words and promotes your most relevant experience.  I have a great website to share with you that can help you refine your resume for maximum results.

Have you ever heard of word clouds?  This is a tool you can use also to visualize what stands out in a resume.  From the text outlined in your resume, you can generate word clouds which highlight and give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in your resume.  This is very easy to do and actually a lot of fun as well!  See my example of a word cloud about Strategic Talent here.

To view your resume as a word cloud, you can visit Wordle.net.

A few key things to look for:

  • Look at the bigger words and ask yourself, are these the ones you want to highlight?
  • Look at the smaller words; are some of these more important?
  • Is anything missing?

I hope you find this useful and if you update your resume, please send us a copy.  This same process also works very well for writing good job descriptions.  Good luck and happy wordling!

"Great Post Tiffany! I think word clouds can also be useful conversationally by helping you determine the best description of what makes you unique for your 15 or 30 second elevator pitch. "
